Pack outlasts Regis to claim series

Pack wins seventh game in eight tries as climb up standings continues.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 17, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo kept up its winning ways Sunday, turning in a workmanlike effort in posting a 5-4 win over Regis and claiming the series win, three games to one.

The win marks the Pack's seventh in the past eight games and eights in its last 11.

CSU-Pueblo took its first lead of the afternoon in the fifth inning, when it turned a 2-1 Regis lead on its ear after a base-clearing, two-run triple by Jason Veyna (Sr., Lamar, Colo.) put the ThunderWolves up 3-2.

The Pack improved its fortunes in the sixth when Regis gifted CSU-Pueblo two more runs, which came by way of three walks in the inning by Regis starter Mike McElreath.  The ThunderWolves plated two runs on just one hit in the inning, going up 5-2.

Regis did make the game interesting, however.  After Pack starter Matt Cole (Sr., Walnut, Calif.) left the game after six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, closer Tim Pomierski (Jr., Upland, Calif.) entered the game to attempt a three-inning save.

In the bottom of the ninth, Regis started on a two-out rally attempt, drawing two walks and getting a single as the bases were loaded for the RMAC's top power-hitter, Jon Shoutta.  But Pomierski lulled Shoutta into a groundout, preservering the 5-4 win.

CSU-Pueblo improves to 22-16 overall and 17-11 in RMAC play, setting their sights on their next opponent, Colorado School of Mines, which will host the ThunderWolves in Golden next weekend.
