Pack misses out on doubleheader sweep as bats become cold in second game.
LAS VEGAS, N.M. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 26, 2011) - The Pack kept on steaming toward a series win with defending RMAC champion, New Mexico Highlands, Saturday, splitting a doubleheader by earning a 14-6 win only to fall 4-1 in the nightcap.
The Pack followed up a dominant 12-3 win Friday by piling on again in the first game Saturday, again turning an early Highlands lead on its ear with a few big innings.
Trailing 3-1, CSU-Pueblo began to put on a hitting clinic, uncorking five hits to manufacture four runs and take a 6-3 lead in the fourth inning.
Adding insult to injury, the Pack put up a 7-run 6th inning, headlined by a grand slam by Cameron Hart (So., Los Angeles, Calif.) that put the ThunderWolves up an insurmountable 13-3.
The next game, however, was a completely different story. Despite a commedable start by Joey Juarez (Jr., Oxnard, Calif.), who moved from the closer's role to a start and allowed four runs over four innings, the Pack bats had clearly run out of gas. CSU-Pueblo could only get four singles in the second game and no extra-base hits en route to the 4-1 loss.
The Pack can, however, claim its first series win over New Mexico Highlands in a four-game series since 2002 with a win Sunday over the Cowboys in the series finale.
