DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 19, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo lost the momentum from a big win Friday night, as struggles by Pack starting pitchers helped sink chances for a few wins, losing 7-6 and 13-6 to Metro State.
CSU-Pueblo starting pitchers only went a combined 2-1/3 innings over the two games, with game two starter Nick Cervantes (Jr., Placentia, Calif.) finding the pine after just a 1/3 inning with four earned runs to his credit.
With pitching being an issue Saturday, the Pack bats had to be on fire. Unfortunately, CSU-Pueblo was swinging an average stick, getting 15 hits over 14 innings of the doubleheader. Though the ThunderWolves did get a big bat from J.T. Greenhood (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.), who drilled two bombs on the day, including his RMAC-leading fifth and sixth home runs, during the first game of the double dip.
The Pack's best chance at victory came in the first game, as CSU-Pueblo was making a rally in the top of the 7th inning. The ThunderWolves, already with a run scored in the inning, had runners on first and third with two outs. But the Pack couldn't will the tying run home, falling short in the one-run game.
CSU-Pueblo, now 11-9 and 6-5 in RMAC play, will try to get a series split from Metro State Sunday when the two teams square off in a nine-inning affair.
