GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 13, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo missed out on a chance to split a four-game series with Mesa State Sunday, losing 8-2 to the Mavericks.
Despite nearly matching Mesa State hit-for-hit, the Pack stranded nine runners on base, which undid the best start of the season on the mound by Jeremiah Struble (So., Manitou Springs, Colo.), who had struggled so far this season, entering Sunday with a 13.00 ERA but giving up just five runs over five innings.
But the story was certainly the amount of runners the Pack left stranded. The Pack left two runners on base three different times, while Mesa State left just four runners on base throughout the entire game.
The loss drops the ThunderWolves to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in RMAC play, leaving them two games behind Mesa State (9-5, 7-1 RMAC), two games behind the Mavericks for the RMAC Mountain Division lead.
CSU-Pueblo will return home for a Tuesday non-conference doubleheader with Oklahoma Panhandle State before taking to the road again when they meet Metro State in a conference four-gamer in Denver.
