CSU-Pueblo starts conference schedule on right foot.
ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 2, 2011) - The last time the ThunderWolves stepped into Adams State's Plachy Hall, it was greeted with an embarassing 50-plus point loss, the worst loss ever suffered by a Kip Drown-coached team.
Friday, the Pack stuck it to Adams State in their return trip, claiming a decisive 67-57 win over the Grizzlies.
After a lackadaisical start in which the teams traded leads for the game's first 15 minutes, CSU-Pueblo finally broke out.
A 22-22 deadlock was broken in the first half on a Kendall Babler (Sr., Rifle, Colo.) three-pointer followed a bucket by Jennelle Branting (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) that put the ThunderWolves up for good.
The Pack went into the break up 34-30 and would let Adams State get as close as 34-32 before embarking on a 10-2 run that effectively buried the Grizzlies.
One of the keys to the Pack's success was the play of Alex Evans (So., Louisville, Colo.) who led the ThunderWolves with 18 points and four big steals.
The Pack's dominance in the second half was directly attributable to an outstanding night protecting the ball, committing only five turnovers in the entire game and no turnovers at all in the second half.
CSU-Pueblo will now face its first true measure of its status in the RMAC as it travels to 7th-ranked Fort Lewis in Durango, where the Pack will try to grab its first road win over the Skyhawks since 2007.a
