ThunderWolves display refined inside game in dominant win.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 18, 2011) - Looking to open the season with a bang, the CSU-Pueblo women's basketball team did just that in their home opener against Eastern New Mexico.

The Pack got off to a quick start going on a 22-4 run en route to a 66-42 win over the Zias.

The ThunderWolves simply lit it up in the first half, shooting 17-for-34 from the field and 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. The Pack also dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Zias 50-36 throughout the game.

Rebounding was a weakness for the Pack last year, but with the addition of Laurel Kearsley (Jr., Victor, Idaho) and Katie Nehf (Fr., Broomfield, Colo.), who finished with nine and eight rebounds respectively, the weakness looks to be shored up.

Overall, the Zias were dismal from the field, finishing the game shooting 28 percent while the Pack benefitted from a strong shooting, finishing the game at respectable 43 percent.

The Pack was balanced, scoring with four players finishing in double digits, led by a 12-point, five-rebound performance from Alex Evans (So., Louisville, Colo.).

Eastern New Mexico battled hard throughout the game and got a strong performance from Amber Williford, who finished the game with nine points and four rebounds.

Defensively the Pack was able to force 15 Zia turnovers, which they were able to capitalize for 18 points.

The Pack was also very successful distributing the ball, finishing the game with 15 assists as a team while committing 14 turnovers.

CSU-Pueblo will close out the Al Kaly Classic Saturday evening at 5 p.m. when they tip off against Cameron University.
