Two Mesa State players put up 20-plus as Pack loses.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 7, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo couldn't contend with good post play and very strong three-point shooting put up by Mesa State Friday, trailing for most of the game and losing 82-70.
The Pack saw a close game go up in smoke in the first half, posting its final lead of the game at the 10:15 point of the first half as Mesa State kept inching away, taking a 34-28 lead into the break.
CSU-Pueblo would fight to stay in it, though, showing effective long range shooting down the stretch. The ThunderWolves would eventually hit eight three-pointers in the game, led by three treys by Taylor Fox (Fr., Santa Cruz, Calif.), but it was Mesa State's strong shooting and effective dump-ins to the post that kept the Pack behind.
Mesa State shot 49 percent from the field and nearly 54 percent in the second half alone, as the Pack could get no closer than three points down the stretch. It was led by a pair of 22-point performances by Kelsey Sigl and Tara Gehring.
CSU-Pueblo was led by a 16-point, 7-rebound night by Rachel Espinoza (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), who also added four assists. Kendall Babler (Jr., Rifle, Colo.) added 15 points and five assists.
The game also marked a bittersweet return of 2010 RMAC Shootout MVP, Katrina Selsor, who transferred from CSU-Pueblo to Mesa State over the summer. She played the decoy role to a tee, scoring seven points with just one field goal, but adding nine rebounds and five assists.
