Pack overcomes 12-2 deficit to run away with win.
CHADRON, Neb. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 21, 2011) - Stormy weather inched its way into Chadron State College's Armstrong Gymnasium Friday, not only dealing the Chadron State-CSU-Pueblo matchup a 75-minute delay, but nearly clouding up the Pack's game as well as the Pack fell 12-2 to start the game. But CSU-Pueblo circled the wagons, claiming a 64-49 win over the Eagles.
After the delay, which included a leaky puddle in the middle of the floor that required an impromptu patch job, CSU-Pueblo saw it's rhythm completely gone at the outset. The Pack were down by 10 nine minutes into the game, missing numerous opportunities to keep the game close or even run away with it themselves.
The ThunderWolves missed 10 layups in the first half, eight of them on would-be fast break buckets, but CSU-Pueblo eventually made its way back into the game, closing the gap to 24-22 at halftime.
"We felt like the most fortunate team in America to be down two at halftime," Pack coach Kip Drown said. "And we were able to respond well in the second half."
In the second half, the Pack's fortune certainly did change, putting up 42 in the half and outscoring the Eagled 42-25 overall in the second frame. CSU-Pueblo started things out by going on a 15-0 run over four minutes early in the second half, taking a 43-30 lead at the 13-minute mark that it would never relinquish.
The Pack's leading scorer was Kendall Babler (Jr., Rifle, Colo.), who scored a game-high 19 points and four assists and three steals to the cause. Erica Hicks (So., Lakewood, Colo.) added 12 points while Katie Tomlinson (Jr., Mesa, Ariz.) scored 10 points.
As a result of the late start, RMAC ruled dictate that the ThunderWolves need extra time before its next game Saturday night at Nebraska-Kearney. The Pack's tilt with the Lopers will now begin at 6:30 p.m. CST.
