Espinoza goes for 28 in win.
DENVER, Colo. (Jan. 15, 2011 - GoThunderWolves.com) - A nearly 20-year-old monkey on the backs of the ThunderWolves women's basketball team was effectively ejected Saturday as the Pack claimed its first win over Regis since 1991, winning 84-71.
CSU-Pueblo needed to come back from an atrocious second half the previous night against nationally-ranked Metro State in a losing effort, and they were able to do just that.
CSU-Pueblo would fall by as much as four early to Regis, trailing 15-11 eight minutes into the game. But the Pack responded by scoring seven of the next nine points, going up 18-17, then going up for good after jumping up 26-24 on the Rangers.
The star of the night was undoubtedly Rachel Espinoza (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), who registered a season-best 28 points, which included 11 free throw makes on the night. Espinoza's backcourt partner, Kendall Babler (Jr., Rifle, Colo.) was also effective, going for 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in a well-rounded effort. Caiti Forrester (RFr., Boulder City, Nev.) also turned in what could be regarded as her best game of the season, scoring 11 points to go with six boards, shooting 4-for-7 from the field.
With the win, CSU-Pueblo is now 9-6 on the season, and improve to 6-5 in RMAC play. Next weekend, the Pack has a Nebraska trip where they will take on Nebraska-Kearney and Chadron State.
