Pack runs shutout streak to over 200 minutes, Thompson earns
shutout in first career start.

SAN ANGELO, Tex. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 12,
2010) - It's been famine to feast for the ThunderWolves
women's soccer team, keeping up their hot streak by disposing of a
very tough Angelo State team Sunday, downing the Rambelles 2-0 on
the road.
The win lifted the Pack's record to 2-2 after an 0-2 start, and
extended their shutout streak to over 206 minutes.
It also marked a milestone for keeper Savannah
Thompson (Fr., Upland, Calif.), who saw her first
action as a ThunderWolf and excelled in a big way, scoring a
shutout in her first start and becoming just the fourth keeper
in ThunderWolf history to post a shutout in her first career
start (joining Sara Ledbetter (1997), Nadia Fercha (2000) and
Chrissy Mandarich (2004)).
Thompson benefitted from an ironclad defense that didn't allow
many legitimate shots all day long. Though the Rambelles
landed 11 shots on goal, few had a real shot to find the back of
the net.
"Our defense continues to mesh as a unit and we're playing more
as a team rather than individually, and that makes a huge
difference," Pack coach Janet Cassidy said. "We're on a
defensive mission right now, and it will be hard for somebody to
get a ball through us at this point."
On the other end of the ball, Morgan Purkey (So.,
Pueblo, Colo.) took charge to record two goals for her
second multi-goal game of her career. The first came on a
penalty kick in the 54th minute, putting the Pack up 1-0, while the
second came on a lead pass from Krystin Bustos
(RSo., Amarillo, Tex.), which Purkey fired in from the 18
in the 87th minute, killing any of Angelo's hopes for a come
back.
The Pack was able to do what it did offensively with limited
chances - the ThunderWolves landed just four shots on goal, two of
which went in for scores, and had only two corners to work
with.
The ThunderWolves' hot streak comes at a great time - CSU-Pueblo
faces perhaps its toughest test of the season Friday night, when it
opens its conference slate against Fort Lewis, the 14th-ranked team
in the nation, in the program's first ever night game at
home. The Pack's tilt against the Skyhawks will be the team's
only game next weekend.
