PUEBLO, Colo. – Behind a two-goal performance from Baylie Reedy and a second-half strike from Sara Zehnder, the Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team rolled to a 3-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico Thursday evening at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
The victory was the first of the season for the ThunderWolves, who improved to 1-1-1 overall, while Eastern New Mexico moved to 1-1-1.
After playing to a scoreless draw through the opening 45 minutes, the Pack wasted little time breaking through after halftime.
Just 1:40 into the second half, Reedy opened the scoring with her first goal of the night. Jenna Elledge set up Reedy for the finish at the 46:40 mark, giving CSU Pueblo a 1-0 advantage.
Reedy struck again in the 65th minute, finding the back of the net unassisted at 64:37 to double the ThunderWolves' lead. The junior finished the night with a game-high two goals on three shots, with all three attempts landing on frame.
The Pack needed just over four more minutes to put the match away.
Zehnder, who entered the match off the bench, scored at 68:43 following another assist from Elledge to extend CSU Pueblo's advantage to 3-0. The goal came on Zehnder's only shot of the match, while Elledge finished the evening with two assists.
All three CSU Pueblo goals came during a 22-minute stretch to begin the second half, with Reedy accounting for the first two before Zehnder supplied the final tally.
Offensively, the ThunderWolves finished with a 10-6 advantage in total shots and put seven attempts on goal compared to four for the Greyhounds. CSU Pueblo generated five shots in each half and finished with two corner kicks.
Reedy paced the Pack with three shots, all on goal, while Maya Bethelmie, Rianna Aguilar, Abby Menk and Zehnder each recorded a shot on frame.
On the defensive end, CSU Pueblo earned its second clean sheet through three matches. Peppi Niemi started between the posts and made four saves over the opening 80:59 before Ella Bulfer closed out the final 9:01 without allowing a goal.
The Pack defense limited Eastern New Mexico to just two shots during the second half after the Greyhounds produced four in the opening period.
