SAN ANGELO, Texas – Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer carried a one-goal advantage into halftime Saturday before Angelo State scored three times in the second half to hand the ThunderWolves a 3-1 setback at LeGrand Soccer Complex.
With the loss, CSU Pueblo moves to 0-1-1 on the young season, while Angelo State improves to 1-0-1.
"It was a tough ending for us today after leading for a large period of the game," said CSU Pueblo Head Coach John Constable. "Angelo deserved to win in the end but I was proud of a lot of what our players served up over the 90 minutes. We look forward to playing at home on Thursday."
The ThunderWolves broke through in the 35th minute when Nadia Bailey found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Ruthie Landwehr was credited with the assist on the play, giving the Pack a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
CSU Pueblo generated seven shots during the opening 45 minutes while holding Angelo State scoreless despite five first-half shots from the Rambelles.
Angelo State responded after halftime and evened the match in the 69th minute when Eleanor Lock converted a penalty kick. The Rambelles moved ahead 2-1 at the 78:23 mark on a goal from Zanae Nylund before Ava Cantu added an insurance goal less than two minutes later, assisted by Graham Peeples, to account for the final margin.
The Pack finished the match with 11 shots, including seven on goal. Maya Bethelmie led CSU Pueblo's attack with four shots and three attempts on frame, while Bailey and Madi Reardon each added two shots. Abby Menk also recorded a shot on goal.
Angelo State finished with an 18-11 advantage in total shots and a 10-7 edge in shots on goal. The Rambelles also held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal, Peppi Niemi played all 90 minutes for the ThunderWolves and made seven saves, including six during the second half.
CSU Pueblo will now return to Pueblo for its 2026 home opener on Thursday, Sept. 3 against Eastern New Mexico. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
