RMAC Tournament: #3 Mesa State 9, #5 CSU-Pueblo
3
KEARNEY, Neb. - The ThunderWolves saw their hopes for a repeat
as RMAC Tournament champions disappear, as a seven-run inning by
Mesa State buried the Pack and ejected them from the RMAC
playoffs.
CSU-Pueblo finishes the season with a 23-24 overall record after
the loss.
The ThunderWolves undid an early 2-0 Mesa State advantage by
turning in a two-run fifth inning which could have been much bigger
than it was. CSU-Pueblo had bases loaded and already one run
on the board with none out after a walk to Zach Hoffman (Sr., Pueblo West, Colo.) pushed in a run.
But a double play ball, which scored another ThunderWolf run, cut
off an inning that could have been a big one for the Pack.
Mesa State came through with their big inning though, turning in
seven runs in the sixth, undoing what had been a strong start for
pitcher Matt Cole (Jr, Walnut, Calif.). The
inning, for all intents and purposes, undid the Pack's season, as
well.
The loss marks the final collegiate hurrah for 15 Pack seniors,
most of which were part of last season's RMAC Championship
team.
