CSU-Pueblo 19, Metro State 4
DENVER - Needing an offensive boost after an anemic series vs.
Mesa State last weekend, CSU-Pueblo went yard four times and
put up a season-high 19 runs in earning a 19-4 victory over Metro
State.
The ThunderWolves build a 12-0 lead before the Roadrunners even
had a chance to bat around, putting up five runs in the first and
another seven in the second. Once the lead was built, the
Pack hitters decided to flex its muscles, hitting three of its four
homers after the first two innings, including a two-dinger day by
Kyle Wager (Jr., Globe, Ariz.), who turned in a
2-for-4 day with 4 RBI.
The lively beginning to the game gave starter Cole
Stephens (Sr., Amarillo, Tex.) the support he needed to
enjoy a relaxing start on the mound. Stephens earned his second win
in as many starts this season, going eight innings and striking out
six, allowing three runs.
The 19-run explosion by the Pack marked the most runs it had
scored on an opponent since it hung 32 runs on Colorado Christian
on Apr. 11, 2009, and got the Pack into the winning column after a
three-game losing streak.
CSU-Pueblo will finish its four-game set with Metro State with a
Friday doubleheader followed by a Saturday afternoon nine-inning
affair, all at Metro State.
