Game 1: Mesa State 20, CSU-Pueblo 11
Game 2: Mesa State 6, CSU-Pueblo 1
CSU-Pueblo had trouble with its pitching in one game, and
trouble with its bats in the other as the Pack fell to a
doubleheader sweep to Mesa State Sunday.
Mesa State won the first game with offensive fireworks, 20-11,
and took the nightcap 6-1.
The ThunderWolves allowed eight runs in the first inning of game
one, but managed to rally back to make things interesting.
Trailing 13-0, CSU-Pueblo used an inside-the-park home run by
Zach Hoffman (Sr., Pueblo West, Colo.) to put two
runs on the board, then cut the lead to 13-7 when Austin
Roff (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) hit a pinch-hit grand
slam in the 7th inning. But a 7-run eighth by Mesa State
spoiled the Pack's chances for a rally.
In the nightcap, CSU-Pueblo started very strong as starter
Josh Herback-South (Sr., Regina, Saskatchewan,
Canada) had a no-hitter through three while CSU-Pueblo
held a 1-0 lead after Mike Sanchez (Sr., Pueblo,
Colo.) scored on a wild pitch. But a three-run
fourth by Mesa State was enough to tighten up the ThunderWolf bats,
and the Mavericks ultimately won 6-1.
CSU-Pueblo will play a four-game series with Metro State this
weekend, with games taking place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday
to work around Easter Sunday.
