Pack secures sweep with walk-off double

Game 1: CSU-Pueblo 6, Colorado Mines 3
 Game 2: CSU-Pueblo 4, Colorado Mines 3

PUEBLO, Colo. - A walkoff two-run double by Jake Orr (Eagle Mountain, Utah) capped an improbable comeback by CSU-Pueblo Saturday, undoing a 3-0 deficit going into the final inning of a seven-inning affair to snag a 4-3 win, securing a doubleheader sweep of Colorado Mines.

The ThunderWolves won the early game 6-3.

CSU-Pueblo began the 7th with two singles and a walk, loading the bases none out.  The situation prompted a Mines pitching change, sending Cris Rogers, who had allowed just four hits in perplexing the ThunderWolves most of the afternoon, to the bench in favor of Blake Dunham.  The move blew up in the Orediggers' face, as Dunham issued two freebie runs to the ThunderWolves, first uncorking a wild pitch and letting a runner score, then a passed ball, setitng up another free run.

Trailing 4-2, Orr smashed a drive to right center, sending the winning runs across the plate and undoing what may have been the most impressive game played by the Orediggers this season.

The win came after a 6-3 win in the opener, fueled by another impressive start on the mound by Kevin McDonald (Sr., Northglenn, Colo.).  McDonald, who allowed just one hit in a winning start last weekend, allowed just five hits over seven innings, striking out seven.

Offensively, McDonald was helped out by a old-fashioned display of small-ball by the ThunderWolves, as all six of the ThunderWolves' hits were singles.  After falling behind 2-0 in the second inning, CSU-Pueblo tied it up with a two-run third, then went ahead for good when Salazar came through with an RBI single, keying a two-run sixth.

With the wins, CSU-Pueblo improves to 12-9 this season and an RMAC-best 7-2 in conference play.

CSU-Pueblo will go on the road for a big four-game series with nationally-ranked New Mexico Highlands at Las Vegas, N.M. next weekend.
