Game 1: Metro State 7, CSU-Pueblo 4 (9 inn.)
Game 2: CSU-Pueblo 9, Metro State 2
The ThunderWolves rebounded from a blown save loss in game one
of Saturday's doubleheader to ride a complete game gem by newcomer
Joaquin Montano (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) to get a
9-2 win in the nightcap and come away with the split.
Montano threw a five-hitter for the Pack, only allowing two runs
as the Pack routed the Roadrunners in the second game of the
doubleheader. CSU-Pueblo scored more than one run in three
different innings, going for the kill in the fifth and sixth,
putting up three runs each in the game's final innings.
The game was broken wide open without any swings by the Pack in
the fifth inning, as two runs scored off a passed ball
and wild pitch, respectively, during the three-run inning. The
ThunderWolves put up legit runs in the sixth, two coming off a
single by Mark Sayas (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.), his
knock to centerfield putting the ThunderWolves up 8-2 and
effectively sealing the win.
Montano closed out the game in the seventh in impressive
fashion, locking up the "W" by striking out the side and
running his strikeout total to eight.
In the opening game of the doubleheader, a strong day on
the mound by Dan Manos (Sr., Brea, Calif.),
who left with a 4-1 lead after five innings, was squandered when
relievers gave up six runs, including three in the top of the 7th,
which pushed the game to extra innings, and another three in the
top of the 9th, that handed the game to the Roadrunners.
CSU-Pueblo will continue non-conference play Friday at 4 p.m. at
home when it hosts defending Central Region champion, Mesa State,
at Rawlings Field.
