Western State 72, CSU-Pueblo 56
GUNNISON, Colo. - Needing a win to clinch the right to host a
home game in the opening round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference tournament Tuesday, CSU-Pueblo was flat Saturday,
falling by double-digits to Western State, 72-56.
The loss puts the Pack one game behind Adams State for second
place in the RMAC West Division, meaning CSU-Pueblo will now travel
to Alamosa Tuesday for an RMAC Quarterfinal game. A win
Saturday would have given the Pack the tiebreaker over Adams State
and resulted in a home playoff game for the ThunderWolves.
The Pack never led against the Mountaineers, falling behind by a
7-0 margin and never recovering. Western State was in charge
for the whole game, relying on a strong rebounding game,
out-boarding the ThunderWolves 46-29, and keeping mental mistakes
to a minimum in claiming their second home win over the Pack in two
seasons.
Four ThunderWolves scored in double digits, but no player was
dominant, as the team was paced by the 13 points scored by
Caitlyn Jewell (Sr., Pagosa Springs, Colo.).
Western State, meanwhile, had three players scoring 14 or above,
including a 21-point output by leading-scorer, Amber Murray.
More details on the ThunderWolves' scheduled playoff tilt with
Adams State will be released later.
