CSU-Pueblo outscores Mustangs 52-29 after the midway point of the first half to secure win.

SILVER CITY, N.M. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 17, 2010) - Led by a strong night shooting the ball, CSU-Pueblo overcame an 11-point disadvantage in the first half to roar back and claim a 72-60 win over winless Western New Mexico Friday.

The Pack started incredibly slow, only making five of their first 15 shots while Western New Mexico was on fire, opening up a 21-10 lead and holding on to a double-digit lead until the six-minute mark of the first half.

But CSU-Pueblo roared back, going on a 13-0 run to take its first lead of the night, eventually going into the break trailing 36-35.

The Pack was able to pull away in the second half, going up by nine just four minutes into the half.  CSU-Pueblo seemed like they were smooth-sailing, up 60-49 with 6:52 remaining, but Western New Mexico went a 7-0 run to get within four, but late shots down the stretch helped the Pack keep its double-digit advantage intact for the win.

CSU-Pueblo had a big night from Erica Hicks (So., Lakewood, Colo.), who had a team-high 19 points, and Rachel Espinoza (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), who had 17 points and five assists. 

Espinoza also got a piece of history in the game, hitting her 29th and 30th straight free throws, which according to available records, is believed to be a school record.

The ThunderWolves, now 6-2 overall, take on New Mexico Highlands Saturday.
