Tenacity in crunch time lifts Pack over Mines

Pack overcomes woes down low to grind out win.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 11, 2010) - Good teams have that special intangible quality to dig down deep in crunch time when the going gets tough.

That exactly what CSU-Pueblo did Saturday against Colorado School of Mines.

In a slim game where the Pack trailed by a couple of buckets for nearly the entire game, the ThunderWolves finally got a late lead and held on to it, persevering for a 67-60 win over the Orediggers.

In the second half, the Pack never trailed by more than five, but couldn't seem to put together the run they needed to take the lead.  That run finally happened late in the game, when the ThunderWolves used a 9-0 run, first taking a one-point lead at the 2:34 mark and riding it to victory.

The way the Pack did was by ratcheting up its defense and creating opportunities down low - something it hadn't done all game long.

The Pack logged three assists in the final 3:35, all on cutters under the bucket, undoing a dominance Mines had had all night long with their bigs patrolling the paint.

Mines helped out down the stretch, committing two turnovers and securing just two rebounds.

The Pack was led by Amanda Bartlett (Sr., Kiowa, Colo.), who equaled her career-high with 21 points, and Kendall Babler (Jr., Rifle, Colo.) who tied her career-high assist total with eight.

CSU-Pueblo will have one more home game - a non-conference tilt with Oklahoma Panhandle State Monday - before it goes on its first conference road trip of the season next weekend, travelling to New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico.
