CSU-Pueblo claims three-set win over one of top Division III
programs in the nation.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 1,
2010) - CSU-Pueblo was tenacious on the attack and
overwhelmed one of the top NCAA Division III programs in Colorado
College Friday, sailing to a dominant win in three sets over the
15-2, sixth-ranked Tigers.
It marked the Pack's second three-set win this season and
gives the Pack a boost of confidence as it re-enters Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference play Saturday night at Adams State.
The game proved to be a hitting display for junior outside
hitter Alea Wildman (Jr., Denver, Colo.), who had
her most effective night of her collegiate career, turning in a
match-high 13 kills and a career-best .440 attack percentage.
She was helped along on the front line by Bernadette Pitre
(Jr., Clifton, Colo.) and Tamia Herholz (So.,
Colorado Springs, Colo.), who each turned in 11 kills.
Wildman led a slew of big hitters for the Pack, which were
frighteningly effective in the first set, making only two attack
errors and keeping the Colorado College back line on their
heels.
The Pack ultimately hit .307 as a team on the night, its
second-highest output of the season.
Defensively, CSU-Pueblo was solid, as libero Ashley Michel (Jr., Brighton, Colo.) averaged six digs per set,
and the Pack front line turned in seven blocks.
The Pack gets little time to reflect on the win, taking to the
road for a conference matchup at Adams State Saturday night.
