CSU-Pueblo 68, Metro State 51
CSU-Pueblo survived a physical battle with Metro State Saturday,
winning the rebounding battle and relying on 62 percent shooting
from the floor in the second half to upend the Roadrunners 68-51.
The Pack led 28-19 at the half but with an 8-0 Metro State run,
the Roadrunners pulled within one point to start the second
half. A three-pointer by Amanda Bartlett
(Jr., Kiowa, Colo.) helped the Pack extend their lead,
then 31-27 at the time. Bartlett finished the night with a
team high 14 points and a career-high three steals. The
Thunderwolves were also helped by Kami Dahlberg (Sr.,
Peyton, Colo.) who added a career high 12
points.
It was all part of a second half scoring barrage that saw the
Pack go 13-for-21 from the field while Metro State struggled,
hitting just 10 of 28 field goal attempts. Add to the
equation that CSU-Pueblo, the lowest rebounding team in the RMAC,
won the battle on the glass by a 39-31 advantage, and a win was in
the cards for the Pack.
Metro State struggled in the second half as five CSU-Pueblo
players scored points in double figures - the first time the Pack
accomplished the feat since a win over Central Washington Dec. 16.
With the win CSU-Pueblo improved to 10-5 and 6-1 in the RMAC.
The Pack will remain home next weekend as they open Western
Division play, hosting Western State and Mesa State.
