CSU-Pueblo 57, Western
State 49
CSU-Pueblo exacted revenge for an earlier loss to Western State
Friday, putting up one of its best defensive performances of the
year as the ThunderWolves posted a 57-49 win over the Mountaineers.
The Pack held Western State to just 19 points in the first half
and claimed a 43-39 advantage on the class, a season-high for
boards for the Pack, as Western State shot just 29.8 percent from
the field.
One of the keys to the Pack's win was its control of western
State's Amber Murray. Murray, who torched the Pack for 34
points in Western State's win over the ThunderWolves on Jan. 23,
was held to just six points on 2-for-10 shooting. Not one
Mountaineer scored in double-digits in the game.
The ThunderWolves were led on both sides of the ball by
Michelle Ambuul
(Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), who led the Pack with 15
points and 11 boards, her second double-double of her career.
Rachel
Espinoza (So., Pueblo, Colo.) added six assists and
eight points for the Pack.
CSU-Pueblo's win brings them one step closer to hosting a
playoff game in the RMAC Tournament. A CSU-Pueblo win over
Mesa State Saturday, or a Metro State loss will create a Tuesday
night playoff showdown at Massari Arena.
