PHOENIX, Ariz. - CSU-Pueblo looked down the barrel of a gun
Friday and Saturday, taking on four nationally-ranked teams at the
Paseo Racquet Club in Phoenix, Ariz., and falling short.
The ThunderWolves were largely defeated by their opponents, but
Beau
Fresquez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) showed the most success
on the roster during the Pack's guantlet of competition.
Fresquez was the only ThunderWolf to win a singles match, defeating
Cal Poly's Joe Madoo 5-7, 6-2 (13-11).
Fresquez also joined with doubles partner Ricardo Oaxaca (Jr.,
Puebla, Mexico), go to a respectable 2-2, losing only to
Sonoma State's Connor Olson and Jordan Smith, and to BYU-Hawaii's
Rong Ma and Agnel Peter, ranked as the 10th best doubles combo in
the nation by the ITA.
Overall, the Pack's competition may help them as they look for
an RMAC Championship this season. The Pack was picked to
finish 2nd in the RMAC in the conference's preseason poll this
season.
"It was great to play some ranked teams, and I think we really
did play well," Pack coach Tom Durham said. "We know what the
best look like and now we can try to get there ourselves."
