CSU-Pueblo 76, Nebraska-Kearney 62
KEARNEY, Neb. - CSU-Pueblo started its conference season off 2-0
Saturday when it downed Nebraska-Kearney 76-62 in Kearney, securing
the program's first ever win at UNK.
The ThunderWolves overcame a 12-0 hole to start the game and
methodically chipped away at the Lopers in a game that the Pack had
control over after undoing the poor start.
CSU-Pueblo responded to the start with one of the best runs in
school history, beginning on a 27-2 run during a nine-minute span
in the first half, taking an unlikely 27-14 lead and never turning
back. From that point forward, the ThunderWolves only led by
less than 10 points three times. The Pack cruised to victory
on the power of 14 steals and a staggering 31 turnovers by the
Lopers.
The ThunderWolves were led by Rachel Espinoza (Jr.,
Pueblo, Colo.) and Caitlyn Jewell (Sr., Pagosa
Springs, Colo.), each of whom netted 17 points to lead the
ThunderWolves. Freshman Katrina Selsor (Fr., Glenwood
Springs, Colo.) added 15 points and recorded five of the
Pack's 14 steals on the night.
CSU-Pueblo has now won five of its past six meetings with the
Lopers, all coming during the current coaching regime of Kip
Drown. Prior to Drown's arrival, the ThunderWolves mustered
just one win in 15 tries all-time against the Lopers.
CSU-Pueblo will return home next weekend when it hosts
UC-Colorado Springs in a conference showdown at Massari
Arena. Admission to the Dec. 12 game is free.
