Montana State-Billings
62, CSU-Pueblo 48
PUEBLO, Colo. - The ThunderWolves had a golden opportunity to
start the new year on the right foot Saturday when it hosted
Montana State-Billings in a non-conference battle.
But the Pack was shut down in nearly all facets by the wily
Yellowjackets, led by the second-leading scorer in the nation,
Alira Carpenter, who put up 25 points in scoring a 62-48 win over
the ThunderWolves.
The Pack had trouble controlling the ball against the
Yellowjackets, committing 16 turnovers, 12 of which coming by
steals by MSU-Billings. The ThunderWolves also had fits on
the boards, outrebounded 49-38 by MSU-Billings, who also ruled the
offensive glass, grabbing 17 offensive boards to just nine for the
Pack.
The ThunderWolves, for the first time in two years, had no
standout players offensively as no ThunderWolf scored in double
digits - the first time since a loss to Regis on Dec. 9, 2006 that
a single Pack player failed to eclipse the 10-point mark. The
Pack's top scorer was Rachel Espinoza
(So., Pueblo, Colo.), who scored nine points, with seven
of which coming by charities.
The loss drops the Pack to 8-3 overall, and is its second loss
in as many games. The ThunderWolves will look to reassert
itself next Friday when it hosts Colorado Christian.
