Regis 73, CSU-Pueblo
52
LAKEWOOD, Colo. - No matter the season, no matter how good or
how bad either team seem to be, Regis always seems to get the best
of CSU-Pueblo in women's basketball. Saturday, Regis, which
hadn't lost to the ThunderWolves at Regis since 1991, continued
their mastery of the Pack, winning 73-52.
Early, the Pack had Regis in control, jumping out to a 12-5 lead
and owning the Rangers in the paint. But Regis responded with
a 16-0 run, stopping the ThunderWolves on nine occasions and
holding them without a point for nearly seven minutes.
From that point on, the Rangers held a comfortable lead on the
ThunderWolves, never seeing it threatened because of a dismal
shooting night by the Pack.
CSU-Pueblo shot just .297 from the field, and was just .206 from
the field in the first half. Regis, meanwhile, shot 43
percent, and won the statistical battle in rebounds (42-33),
assists (20-11), and took 16 trips to the foul line, compared to
just 11 for the ThunderWolves.
Rachel Espinoza
(So., Pueblo, Colo.) was the only ThunderWolf to slough
off the Pack's struggles, going 7-for-16 from the field and taking
down 10 boards for her first career double-double, adding 20
points. It was Espinoza's second 20-plus-point performance in
the past three games.
CSU-Pueblo will look to rebound from this loss next Thursday
when it travels to Mesa State to take on the Mavericks.
