GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Colorado State University Pueblo men's golf put together a blistering opening day in the desert, carding back-to-back rounds of 11-under 277 to sit at 22-under par and in second place at the Palm Valley Classic, hosted by Western New Mexico University at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona. The ThunderWolves trail only Chico State by three shots after 36 holes, setting up a tightly contested final round.
The Pack's charge was led once again by French standout Marius Dosiere, who continued his remarkable season with rounds of 64 and 69. Dosiere's opening-round 64 set the tone early, and he backed it up with another strong effort in the afternoon to claim the individual lead heading into Tuesday.
Right on his heels is team captain Archie Wyatt, who delivered one of the most consistent performances of the day. Wyatt fired matching rounds of 68-68 to sit in a tie for second place, giving CSU Pueblo a formidable one-two punch atop the leaderboard.
Paraic McGrath showed resilience across the 36 holes, bouncing back from an opening-round 74 with an impressive 67 in round two to climb the standings. Kyle Leydon added steady play with rounds of 72 and 73, while Jake Johnston rounded out the scoring with rounds of 73-75.
As a team, the ThunderWolves showcased both firepower and depth, piling up birdies throughout the day to build a seven-shot cushion over CSU San Bernardino while positioning themselves firmly in the hunt for the team title.
CSU Pueblo will return to the course tomorrow looking to chase down Chico State and cap off another statement performance as the postseason approaches.
