No. 24 ThunderWolves Finish Runner Up In Mexico

CANCUN, Mexico - The Colorado State University Pueblo men's golf team, ranked No. 24 in the nation, continued its strong start to the fall season with a gritty runner-up finish at the DII Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya in Mexico. Battling tough competition and a demanding layout, the ThunderWolves closed the three-round tournament with a team total of 903 strokes, tying with UT Tyler for second place and finishing just ten shots shy of champion West Texas A&M.

The Pack found themselves in the mix from the start, posting a 304 in Monday's opening round. A resilient response followed in Round 2, where the squad put together their best effort of the week with a 296, vaulting them back into contention. Although a final-round 303 left them short of the title, the performance underscored the team's depth and competitive edge on an international stage.

Leading the charge was Kyle Leydon, whose steady play carried him to a top-10 finish. Leydon closed with a 1-over 73 in the final round, capping off a three-day total of 224 to place seventh overall. Right on his heels were team captain Archie Wyatt and French standout Marius Dosiere, who matched one another stroke for stroke. Both carded 225s to share ninth place individually, proving that the Pack had not just one, but three golfers among the tournament's elite.

The supporting cast was equally vital. Jake Johnston bounced back from an opening 81 with a sparkling even-par 73 in Round 2, ultimately finishing tied for 28th. Agustin Pizzorno battled through a tough first round but rallied with closing scores of 76 and 75 to grab a share of 42nd place. Their resilience ensured the ThunderWolves had the balance needed to remain in the hunt against a loaded field.

With three golfers inside the top 10 and a collective showing that left them just a handful of swings away from victory, the ThunderWolves once again demonstrated why they are one of the most consistent and dangerous programs in the region. The second-place finish adds to their growing résumé as the season unfolds, setting the stage for another push at conference and national recognition.

Next up, CSU Pueblo will test themselves against the best in the country at the NCAA Division II National Preview, held Oct. 6–7 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada — the same course that will host the 2026 National Championship.
