PARACHUTE, Colo. — Colorado State University Pueblo men's golfer Kyle Leydon capped off an impressive summer by winning the Colorado Golf Association (CGA) Western Championship at Battlement Mesa Golf Club.
Leydon, who transferred to the ThunderWolves from Creighton University at the semester break last season, redshirted this past spring under head coach Josh Koschke as he adjusted to his new program. While at Creighton, the Commerce City, Colo., native competed in three events, averaging 74.33 strokes per round. The former Brighton High School standout now sets his sights on cracking CSU Pueblo's top five this fall as the Pack aim for their ninth consecutive postseason appearance.
The CGA Western Championship was a three-day, 54-hole test in Parachute, Colo., where Leydon finished at six-under-par. He opened the tournament with a scorching 67, followed by a steady 70 in round two, and closed with a 73 in the final round. That total sent him to a playoff with Matthew Zions, which Leydon won on the first extra hole to secure the title.
With the victory, Leydon ends his summer on a high note and brings momentum into the collegiate season. The ThunderWolves kick off their fall campaign Sept. 15-16 at the Travis Roy Memorial in Sheridan, Wyo., hosted at Powderhorn Golf Club.
