MONTROSE, Colo. – The No. 19 ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's golf team closed out the San Juan Intercollegiate with its best round of the tournament, firing a nine-under-par 275 in Tuesday's final round at The Bridges Golf & Country Club.
The ThunderWolves finished the 54-hole tournament in third place after posting rounds of 280, 280 and 275 to finish with a team score of 835, 17-under-par. CSU Pueblo finished just four strokes behind second-place Colorado Mesa, while Colorado Christian captured the team title with a 35-under-par 817.
CSU Pueblo was paced by Jake Johnston and Parker Shaw, who each finished tied for seventh individually at seven-under-par with matching 206 totals.
Johnston continued his strong play after opening the tournament with an even-par 71 before firing a five-under 66 in Monday's second round. He closed the tournament with a two-under-par 69 on Tuesday to secure his top-10 finish.
Shaw joined Johnston in seventh after putting together rounds of 65, 74 and 67. After opening the tournament with a six-under-par 65, Shaw rebounded from his second round with a four-under-par 67 in the final round.
Paraic McGrath also turned in a strong final round for the Pack, carding a three-under-par 68 to finish tied for 23rd at one-under-par 212. McGrath posted rounds of 70, 74 and 68 over the three rounds.
Cole Kratz finished tied for 30th after shooting a one-over-par 214. Kratz recorded rounds of 74, 69 and an even-par 71 in Tuesday's final round.
Rounding out the ThunderWolves' scoring lineup was Callum Kenneally, who finished tied for 63rd with a 12-over-par 225 following rounds of 75, 71 and 79.
Competing as an individual, Luke Shelton finished tied for 30th at one-over-par 214. Shelton opened with a two-under-par 69 before rounds of 74 and an even-par 71.
The Pack's final-round 275 was its lowest team round of the tournament and helped CSU Pueblo secure the third-place finish in the 13-team field. Colorado Christian's Bradley Mulder and Colorado Mesa's Henry Starr shared medalist honors at 12-under-par 201.
The San Juan Intercollegiate was played on the par-71, 7,017-yard layout at The Bridges Golf & Country Club in Montrose.
The Pack are back in action Oct. 12-13 when they travel to Palm Harbor, Fla., to compete in the Copperhead Championship at Innisbrook Resort.
The tournament will be played on Innisbrook's famed Copperhead Course, a 7,209-yard layout that serves as the annual host of the PGA TOUR's Valspar Championship. Ranked as the seventh-toughest course on the PGA TOUR, Copperhead is known for its pine tree-lined fairways, rolling terrain and demanding closing stretch known as the "Snake Pit," where tournaments are often won and lost.
At more than 7,200 yards, the course will provide another demanding test for the ThunderWolves as they continue their fall season.
