The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies, and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
The Ron Lenz National Player of the Year award was named for long-time South Dakota State sports information director Ron Lenz in 2008. Lenz was instrumental in the foundation of the Division II All-America program beginning in 1993.
Retzlaff is one of four players from the RMAC named to one of the two 2025 D2CCA All-America Teams as Black Hills State redshirt junior receiver TJ Chukwurah and Chadron State redshirt senior punter Brodie Eisenbraun were first team selections, while Retzlaff was joined on the second team by New Mexico Highlands freshman running back Jeffery Jones. In addition, Super Region Four (RMAC, Lone Star Conference, Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and Great American Conference, along with D-II Independent Northeastern State) had a total of 17 players named to the 2025 D2CCA All-America Teams.
The RMAC was one of five Division II conferences that had at least four players selected as D2CAA All-Americans, with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference leading the way with eight selections, while the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was next with seven selections, and the GAC was third with six selections. The Great Midwest Conference was fourth with five selections, and the RMAC was next with four selections. In addition, Harding and Ferris State led the way with six overall All-America selections, while Kutztown (Pa.) was next with five selections, and Ashland, Minnesota State-Moorhead, Northeastern (Okla.) State and Wingate had two selections.
In addition, the D2CCA named Virginia Union senior running back Curtis Allen and Ashland senior defensive lineman Michael Shimek as the 2025 Ron Lenz Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.
