LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Colorado State University Pueblo senior receiver
Reggie Retzlaff (Corona, Calif./Riverside City College) has finished seventh in the Harlon Hill Trophy balloting for the top player in NCAA Division II Football.
In this voting for the Harlon Hill Trophy, Retzlaff received 24 votes as he was listed on 15 ballots as he earned three first plate votes, three second place votes and nine third place votes. Central Missouri senior quarterback Zach Zebrowski repeated as this year's winner as he received 177 points (81 ballots) to win by 25 points over Charleston (W.Va.) junior running back Chavon Wright, who was second with 152 points (67 ballots), while Ferris State junior quarterback Travis Chambliss was third with 104 points (56 ballots).
Valdosta State senior quarterback Sammy Edwards was fourth with 71 points (38 ballots), while Virginia Union senior running back Jada Byers was fifth with 58 points (29 ballots) and Slippery Rock senior quarterback Brayden Long was sixth with 41 points (26 ballots) and Angelo State junior quarterback Braeden Fuller was eighth with points (nine ballots).
Retzlaff, who has been named an All-American by the D2CCA, AFCA and the Associated Press this season, was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and the D2CCA Super Region Four Offensive Player of the Year.
On the season, Retzlaff led the RMAC in receiving touchdowns (12), receiving yards per game (116.9) and receiving yards (1,228) and was second in the RMAC in both receptions per game (6.1) and all-purpose yards per game (112.5). On the season, he caught a single-season school record 67 passes for a single-season school record 1,228 yards and tied the single-season school record for touchdown receptions with 12.
The 6-foot-3, 212-pound receiver ranks in the Top 10 in Division II in touchdown receptions, receiving yards and receiving yards per game and his 24 career touchdown receptions are tied for tops on the school's all-time charts and ninth among active Division II players. During the 2024 regular season, Retzlaff was a two-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Week and the NFF Colorado Chapter Player of the Week on Sept. 10 and caught at least seven passes in six games, tallied 100 or more receiving yards in a game six times, including a single-game school record 241 yards in the Pack's 35-6 season opening win at South Dakota Mines. He also hauled in two or more touchdown catches in a game four times.
Retzlaff leads all Colorado football receivers (all levels) in receiving yards and is second in pass receiving yards. Retzlaff is one of two players in school history to record 1,000 or more receiving yards in a season. Recorded a team-high 20 plays of 20 or more yards on the season, including a 76-yard touchdown reception at Western Colorado, which was the longest offensive play of the season. Eight of his 12 touchdown receptions went for 20 or more yards and sits third among active Division II players in career yards per catch (17.7).
This is just the second time overall that CSU Pueblo has had a finalist for the Harlon Hill as along with Retzlaff this season, running back Cameron McDondle was a finalist for the award in 2015 and finished third overall in the voting with 89 points. Overall, the RMAC has had 15 players selected all-time as finalists for the award, including five winners of the Trophy since the award's inception in 1986.
Retzlaff helped the ThunderWolves post a 10-2 overall record and earn its ninth all-time RMAC title, including taking home its first outright league title since 2014 and earned the No. 1 seed from Super Region Four for the NCAA Division II playoffs and fell 26-23 in the second round of the playoffs to Minnesota State in the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl. The playoff appearance was the first for the Pack since 2022.
