COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo had three players named to one of the three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams as announced by the league office on Thursday morning.
The ThunderWolves named All-RMAC Women's Lacrosse selections were senior midfielder
Caira Lessick (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City), who was named to the second team, while freshman midfielder
Katie Broom (Houston, Texas/Spring) and senior attacker
Sedona Sargent (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) were each tabbed honorable mention selections.
The All-RMAC Women's Lacrosse teams were voted on by the league's six head coaches and the head coaches couldn't vote for their own players.
Lessick earns her Second-Team All-RMAC honor after leading the Pack in goals (24), points (29), draw controls (80) and caused turnovers (25). Her 80 draw controls were tops in the league and she averaged 5.71 draw controls per game. On the season, she scored two or more goals in seven games, including two games with five goals each and also recorded 32 ground balls, which was second on the team. Lessick, who was named an Honorable Mention ALL-RMAC selection as a sophomore in 2021, stands second in school history in career draw controls with 158 and is fifth in career points with 94 and tied for fifth in career goals with 71.
Lessick was joined on the All-RMAC Second Team by Fort Lewis junior attacker Haley Dostie, Regis senior attacker Gabby Rothermund, Regis senior attacker Meg Hanson, Colorado Mesa redshirt junior attacker Taylor Jakeman, Colorado Mesa sophomore midfielder Ali Bryant, UCCS sophomore midfielder Erica Rivera, Regis sophomore defender Terah Skillings, Fort Lewis senior defender Rebecca Kiyokawa, Regis senior defender Sarah Hanson, Regis graduate student defender Maya Quigley and Colorado Mesa sophomore goalie Shannon Murphy.
Broom earns her Honorable Mention All-RMAC accolade after being second in the league with 20 assists and those 20 assists tied a single season school record. Along with her 20 assists, Broom was second on the team in goals scored with 23 and led the team in points with 43. Her 43 points were the most in a season by a Pack player since
Emily Eller had 51 points in 2021. She tallied two or more goals in seven games and had two or more assists in a game five times, including a season-high four assists in the Pack's lone win of the season at Erskine. She was second in shots with 65 and added 25 ground balls and 47 draw controls.
Sargent earns her Honorable Mention All-RMAC selection after being tied for third on the team in goals with 21 and she added nine assists for 30 points, which was third-most on the team. She led the team in shots with 70 and put 54 of those shots on goal and had nine ground balls, 16 draw controls and six caused turnovers. Tallied two or more goals in five games, including tying a career-high with four goals in the season finale at UCCS. Her 5.00 shots per game this season are tied for seventh on the school's single season chart.
Broom and Sargent are joined on the Honorable Mention All-RMAC Team was Colorado Mesa junior defender Larkin Daly, Colorado Mesa redshirt junior attacker Melanie Evans, Colorado Mesa freshman attacker Courtney Havel, Colorado Mesa junior midfielder Taylor Scott, Colorado Mesa redshirt junior attacker Regan Wentz, Fort Lewis senior goalie Averi Basso, Fort Lewis senior midfielder Makenna Carter, Fort Lewis freshman defender Samantha Rogers, Regis sophomore goalie Brigit Goetsch, Regis freshman midfielder Shea Murphy, Regis sophomore midfielder Madeline Schallmoser, UCCS junior defender Avery Beck-Davis, UCCS freshman attacker Allie Schell, Westminster junior attacker Hannah Kelleher, Westminster sophomore goalie Gabriella Cheminant and Westminster graduate student midfielder Lauren Shoughro.
Along with announcing the All-RMAC Women's Lacrosse Teams, the league also handed out its individual player awards for the 2023 season on Thursday as Regis graduate student Lucy Johnson was named the RMAC Attacker of the Year, while Regis junior Lily Ferguson was named the RMAC Midfielder of the Year and Colorado Mesa redshirt junior Kelsey Viger was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year. UCCS redshirt junior Madison McGruff was named the RMAC Goalie of the Year, UCCS attacker Brielle Fannin was named the RMAC Freshman of the Year. The final award was given to Westminster's Jannel Snow, who led the Griffins to a fourth-place finish and a No. 4 seed in this weekend's RMAC Tournament with a 4-6 league and overall record.
Lessick, Broom, and Sargent helped the Pack finish the 2023 season with a 1-13 overall record and an 0-10 record in the RMAC under interim head coach
