Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

ThunderWolves fall to No. 22 Tigers

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 20, 2019) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's lacrosse team lost 20-10 to Colorado College Wednesday in a nonconference contest against the No. 22 team in NCAA Division III.

The ThunderWolves (3-3) were looking to tie their program record with a fourth straight win, but with a couple key starters out and the nationally-ranked and undefeated Tigers (7-0) in town, the Pack fell just short.

The two teams joined together for a Lax-4-Life, Inc. Game, as donations and awareness for the organization was the focus of the pregame. Lax-4-Life, Inc. is a national lacrosse campaign that provides support to programs geared toward adolescent and young adult suicide prevention awareness.

CC totaled 47 shots and put 36 on frame, while the Pack had 21 of their 24 shots on goal. The ThunderWolves totaled 23 ground balls, while the Tigers collected 29. The road team also won the draw control category by a 19-11 advantage.

Senior Taylor Christensen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the offense with three goals and one assist on five shots. She now leads the squad  in goals this season with 14. The midfielder also added six draw controls with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Senior attack Allison Wurscher (Tigard, Ore.) recorded two goals with two ground balls. Sophomore Emily Eller (A, Keller, Texas) also scored twice and had three ground balls with one draw control.

Freshman Tayllor Deim (Eagle, Idaho) stepped into a starting role, as junior captain Elyse Ingram (San Jose, Calif.) did not play. She scored once and added an assist. Deim also brought in four draw controls and had two ground balls.

Britney Smith (Jr., D, Oregon City, Ore.) led the team with four ground balls and added one caused turnover. Junior defender Hope Lambert (Pueblo West, Colo.) had a team-best three caused turnovers. The defense was also without sophomore Madison Cunningham (Corona, Calif.), who had started in four and played all five previous games.

Senior goalie Ane Marie Horton (Long Beach, Calif.) was busy and finished with 16 saves and two ground balls.

The ThunderWolves came out and capitalized on their shots, while leaning on Horton through the first half of the opening frame. The first goal came four minutes in by CC, but CSU-Pueblo scored the next four to lead 4-1.

Deim got the Pack on the board first on a feed from Christensen. Eller then scored two in a row about four minutes apart, followed by Christensen getting in on the action with a goal with 18:59 on the clock. At that point, the ThunderWolves had scored on four of their five shots on goal and Horton had racked-up 10 saves.

The Tigers responded and scored with 12 minutes left in the half to start a string of four in a row to move ahead 5-4 with 4:48 remaining. Defender Emily Brewer (So., St. Louis, Mo.) nearly went coast-to-coast to score her first goal of the season and tie the game at five with 2:48 left.

Unfortunately, CC would score three times before half to lead 8-5 at the break. The scoring continued for the Tigers in the second half, as they ended up netting nine unanswered goals to break open the game at 14-5 with 21:39 left in regulation.

The teams would end up playing the final 20 minutes nearly even, as the Tigers scored six more goals to the home team's five. Christian scored twice during that stretch to post the hat trick.

It doesn't get any easier, as the ThunderWolves will host No. 7 Regis University Sunday, March 24 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest beginning at 1 p.m.
