ThunderWolves roar past Rangers 10-3 to clinch RMAC series win

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 17, 2019) – Colorado State University – Pueblo Baseball defeated Regis University 10-3 Sunday at Rawlings Field to clinch the series win.
 
Five ThunderWolves had two or more hits. Easton Adler (Jr., Mead, Colo.) and Stone Romero (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) each had three hits in five trips. Adler scored twice and stole a base. He hit .769 for the series going 10-for-13 with three steals and three runs scored. Adler now has six consecutive multi-hit games.
 
Romero scored a run and drove in one more. He is now hitting .417 on the season.
 
Nick Zappala (Jr., Anthem, Ariz.) led the Pack's strong pitching performance. Zappala earned his first win with the Pack. He threw five innings ,allowing eight hits and one earned run. Zappala did not issue a walk and struck out four. He stranded the bases load twice.
 
Bret Ricklefs (Sr., Meriden, Kan.) dominated over three innings of relief. He did not allow a hit in his three innings. Ricklefs fanned three and walked two.
 
Dakota Popham (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) drove in a team-high three runs. Popham had two hits in four trips including his sixth double of the season.
 
JP Hopkins (Jr., Chino Hills, Calif.) smacked two hits in three trips. He also drew a walk. Hopkins drove in two runs and scored once.
 
Logan Gibbons (Jr., Taylorsville, Utah) slugged two hits in four trips. Gibbons scored twice in his third start of the season.
 
Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.) went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Sauceda drew two walks and plated two runs. The first baseman now has 130 career walks, five shy of the school record.
 
Jesse Holguin (Fr., Colton, Calif.) recorded two hits in four trips. Holguin stole his first base of the season. He also doubled a scored a run.
 
Popham pushed the game's first run across in the first inning when he drove in Adler with a sacrifice fly. Regis answered in the second to tie the game at one.
 
The two teams remained deadlocked until the fourth. Regis loaded the bases in the fourth, but Zappala got a strikeout and a ground out to escape the inning unscathed.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, the Pack erupted for five runs. Incredibly, the Pack scored all five runs with two outs. Hopkins kept the inning alive with a two-run single that gave the Pack the lead. Romero followed with a RBI single of his own. Popham slugged a two-run double that gave the Pack a 6-1 lead.
 
They added to their advantage an inning later. Kodee Martin (Jr., Platte County, Mo.) drove in Gibbons with a sacrifice fly. Sauceda plated Holguin with a base knock that made it 8-1 after five.
 
The Pack continued to pour it on in the sixth. After Ricklefs stranded two Rangers in the top half, the ThunderWolves tacked on two more runs to make it 10-1.
 
Regis scored two in the ninth, but it would be too little, too late.  The Pack closed out a 10-3 victory to clinch a 3-1 series win.
 
The Pack evened its record at 10-10. They are 5-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Regis fell to 6-15 (1-7 RMAC).
 
CSU-Pueblo will face D-I opponent University of Northern Colorado Tuesday. The Pack and Bears will take the field at 2 p.m.
