Boulder Creek HS: Played three varsity seasons at Boulder Creek High for coach Joe McDonald … Earned Second Team All-Section honors … Selected to the Division I state all-star game … Threw six complete games in 11 starts as a senior … Posted a 7-3  record overall with a 2.35 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 74.1 innings pitched in 2015 … Ranked second in program history in wins, second in innings pitched and third in strikeouts in school history… Named Pitcher of the Year twice for the Jaguars … also played basketball.

PERSONAL: Son of Todd and Debbie Zappala…  Has one sister and one brother … Brother, Andrew, played collegiate tennis at Grand Canyon University.
