Team effort launches Pack past Black Hills State 73-63

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 8, 2019) - Timely shooting and a fourth quarter flurry led Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball to a 73-63 victory over Black Hills State University Friday at Massari Arena.
 
The Pack forced 24 turnovers, their second-highest total of the season. CSU-Pueblo made 41.9 percent from the field.
 
Khiya Adams (Jr., Falcon, Colo.) drained 7-of-11 from the field to score 15 points. Adams hauled in a team-high seven rebounds. She finished with two steals.
 
Jennah Knafelc (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) netted 15 points. Knafelc dished out five assists. She came away with two steals.
 
Freshman JaNaiya Davis (Hewitt, Texas) tacked on 12 points. Davis made 5-of-10 from the field. She came away with four steals. Davis swatted two Yellow Jacket shots.
 
Kansas Watts (Fr., Houston, Texas) came off the bench with 12 points. Watts went 5-of-12 from the field. She had two steals.
 
The Pack was +25 with Nicole Smith (Jr., Long Beach, Calif.) in the lineup. Smith filled the stats sheet with five points, five rebounds, and three assists.
 
A 7-0 run helped Black Hills State take a 13-8 lead with 2:32 left in the first. The Pack scored the next five points. In the closing seconds of the first quarter, Watts hit a layup to give CSU-Pueblo 15-13 lead.
 
The second quarter saw the two teams trade the lead throughout. With the Pack down two in the final seconds of the second quarter, Smith sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Pack a 33-32 lead at halftime.
 
Black Hills State began the second half on a 6-0 run.  They led by as many 10, taking a 47-37 advantage midway through the third quarter. The Pack rallied over the final few minutes of third. As the clock ticked down to the final seconds of the third, Nadirah Oakman (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) knocked down a jumper that tied the game at 49 heading into the fourth.
 
Midway through the fourth quarter the game remained tied at 58. The Pack went on an 11-2 run to put the Yellow Jackets away. They used this run to seal a 73-63 win.
 
The Pack now owns a 12-10 record. They are 10-6 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Black Hills State fell to 12-8 (8-8 RMAC).
 
CSU-Pueblo will wrap up their four-game homestand Saturday when they host South Dakota School of Mines & Technology at 5:30 p.m. Saturday's game will also be the Pack's annual Take-A-Kid-To-A-Game Night.
 
All kids 17 & under will receive free admission to Saturday's game. Denver Nuggets Super Mascot Rocky will entertain the crowd Saturday and take pictures with kids. There will also be a coloring station, temporary tattoos and Pepsi products. Kids will also have the opportunity to get autographs from both Pack Basketball teams.
