Defense & Davis deliver as Pack defeats Hardrockers 58-50

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 9, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball prevailed over South Dakota School of Mines & Technology 58-50 Saturday at Massari Arena.
 
The Pack held the Hardrockers to just 28.0 percent shooting from the field. They also forced 20 turnovers.
 
JaNaiya Davis (Fr., Houston, Texas) scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Davis made a career-high two 3-pointers including a half-court buzzer beater. Defensively, Davis set a career-high with five steals and three blocks. She narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
 
Jennah Knafelc (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) netted 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Knafelc came away with three steals and dished out three assists.
 
Senior Lauren Heyn (Sr., Penryn, Calif.) pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds. She scored eight points on 3-of-5 shooting.  Heyn needs seven more rebounds to move into eighth all-time at CSU-Pueblo. She rejected two Hardrocker shots.
 
Kansas Watts (Fr., Houston, Texas) scored eight points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Watts also had two blocks.
 
The Pack used a 5-0 run to take a 14-12 lead. With 0.3 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Davis launched a shot from over half way across the court that found the net. Davis' buzzer beater made it 17-12.
 
The Hardrockers closed within one early in the second quarter. However, the Pack would finish the half on a 10-2 run that made it 35-24 at the break. The ThunderWolves made 56.0 percent from the field in the first half and 62.5 percent from downtown. Knafelc scored 14 points in the first half.
 
CSU-Pueblo started the second half on a 7-1 run that pushed their lead to a game-high 17 points. By their end of the quarter the Hardrockers cut the Pack's lead to 10, 46-36.
 
Watts scored the first field goal of the fourth quarter nearly half-way through the frame. The ThunderWolves maintained a lead of at least seven points throughout the fourth quarter. They triumphed 58-50.
 
CSU-Pueblo now owns a 13-10 record overall. They are 11-6 in RMAC play, which places them in a three-way tie for third.
 
The Pack will hit the road for the last time in the regular season when they visit University of Colorado Colorado Springs Friday and Colorado School of Mines Saturday.  The Mountain Lions and Orediggers are the two teams tied with the Pack for third place in the conference standings.
