Knafelc’s career-high 26 points not enough for Pack WBB

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 23, 2019) – With third place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on the line, Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball fell to Metro State University Denver 74-69 Saturday at Massari Arena.
 
Jennah Knafelc (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored a career-high 26-points. Knafelc knocked down 9-of-15 from the field including 4-of-6 from downtown. The senior sank of 4-of-5 at the line. Knafelc came away with three steals and a block.
 
JaNaiya Davis (Fr., Hewitt, Texas) netted 15 points. She also passed out seven assists. Davis swished 6-of-7 at the line. She swiped four steals and hauled in five rebounds.
 
Khiya Adams (Jr., Falcon, Colo.) matched Davis with 15 points. Adams hit 6-of-11 from the field. She led the Pack with eight rebounds.
 
Despite Adams' success on the boards the Roadrunners outrebounded the Pack 47-24. As a result, MSU Denver dominated in second chance points 18-6. The Pack made 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from downtown.
 
The Pack's defense stood tall early. The ThunderWolves scored the first six points of the game, while holding the Roadrunners scoreless for the first four minutes. This six-point lead would be the Pack's largest of the game. With the Pack up 9-3, the Roadrunners went on a 9-0 run to jump in front. MSU Denver led 21-13 after one.
 
In the second quarter, the Roadrunners built their advantage to a game-high 12 points at 30-18. The Pack scored the next seven points. By halftime, they had clawed back within four, 37-33.
 
The Pack scored the first seven points of the second half to reclaim the lead 40-37. Both teams traded the lead, but after three frames the Roadrunners held a 55-51 edge.
 
MSU Denver led by as many as eight with 7:05 remaining. The Pack fought back within two with 3:06 left in the game. However, the Pack could not get back in front as the Roadrunners outlasted the Pack 74-69.
 
With their win, the Roadrunners improved to 14-7 in RMAC play. The Pack fell to 13-8. CSU-Pueblo shares fourth place with Colorado School of Mines with one game remaining. They are 15-12 overall.
 
The Pack will wrap up its regular season when they host New Mexico Highlands University Friday, March 1 at 5:30 p.m. The Pack needs a win over the Cowgirls and a Mines loss to clinch the fourth seed and home game in the upcoming RMAC Tournament.
