COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 13, 2019) - JaNaiya Davis accomplished Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball's first triple-double in 30 years to lead the ThunderWolves to a 73-67 win over University of Colorado Colorado Springs Friday.
Davis (Fr., Hewitt, Texas) scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. She dished out a career-high 11 assists. The freshman's 11 assists are the most by a ThunderWolf since Feb. 16, 2002, a span of 17 years. Davis completed the triple-double with 10 rebounds, also a career-high. Davis scored 15 points in the second half and had seven assists in the final 20 minutes.
This triple-double is the first true triple-double in program history. The only other triple-double came courtesy of Suzanne Gonzales Feb. 11, 1989. Gonzales had a quadruple-double that night.
Khiya Adams (Jr., Falcon, Colo.) recorded a double-double of her own. Adams scored 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting. She hauled in 11 rebounds.
Lauren Heyn (Sr., Penryn, Calif.) netted 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Heyn came away with a season-high three steals and added four rebounds.
Kansas Watts (Fr., Houston, Texas) contributed nine points on 4-of-8 shooting. She added five boards.
Jennah Knafelc (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) dished out three assists and chipped in three steals.
Nadirah Oakman (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored nine points.
A see-saw first quarter ended with the Mountain Lions holding a 13-12 edge. Oakman scored five points in the first quarter.
UCCS used an 8-0 run to take a 37-26 lead. With four seconds left, Davis dropped another buzzer beating jumper to make it 37-28 at the half.
The Mountain Lions scored the first six points of the second half to push their lead to a game-high 15 points. The Pack responded with the next 10 points to make it 45-38. By the end of the third, the Pack fought back within three, 55-52.
In the fourth quarter, UCCS reopened the lead to eight, 65-58. The Pack would only let the Mountain Lions score two more points, as the Pack embarked on a 15-2 run that led them to a 73-67 victory. As time expired, Adams missed a free throw and Davis pulled down her 10th rebound of the night to complete her historic triple-double.
Thanks to their victory Friday the Pack improved to 12-6 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. They stand 14-10 overall. UCCS fell to 12-12 (11-7 RMAC).
The Pack will play Colorado School of Mines Saturday at 5 p.m. in CSU-Pueblo's final road regular season game. The winner of Saturday's game between the Pack and Orediggers will hold sole possession of third place in the RMAC standings.
