Dominant Defensive showing leads Pack WBB past Hardrockers 56-39

RAPID CITY, S.D. (January 25, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball shutdown South Dakota School of Mines & Technology with a stifling defensive performance that gave the Pack a 56-39 win Friday at the King Center.
 
The Pack forced a season-high 25 turnovers. They held the Hardrockers to just one point in the fourth quarter. 
 
Khiya Adams (Jr., Falcon, Colo.) narrowly missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Adams made 6-of-9 from the field. She also dished out three assists.
 
Jennah Knafelc (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) finished with 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Knafelc rejected a team-high two Hardrocker shots. She added a steal.
 
JaNaiya Davis (Fr., Hewitt, Texas) tacked on 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting. She passed out three assists. Defensively, Davis delivered two steals and a block.
 
Sydni Williams (So., Little Rock, Ark.) matched Davis with two steals and a block. She finished with seven points. Naomi Torgerson (Jr., Anoka, Minn.) led the Pack with three steals.
 
The Pack finished the first quarter on an 8-2 run that gave them an 11-6 lead. CSU-Pueblo kept the Hardrockers scoreless from 7:35 to 0:46 of the opening frame. Davis dropped five points in the first.
 
CSU-Pueblo remained in front throughout the second quarter, keeping it at least a two-possession game. They led by as many as eight and held a 26-20 edge at the break.
 
With 4:24 left in the third, the Hardrockers tied the game at 34. They took their first lead since the opening minutes at 36-35 with 3:32 left in the third. An 8-0 run launched the Pack to a 43-36 advantage. They led 45-38 after three.
 
The fourth quarter was a defensive showcase by the Pack. They did not let the Hardrockers get a single point for the first 9:28 of the fourth quarter. CSU-Pueblo went on an 11-0 during that span. The Hardrockers made a free throw, but the Pack allowed just one point in the fourth as they rode their dominant defense to a 56-39 win.
 
CSU-Pueblo improved to 10-8 overall with an 8-4 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Hardrockers fell to 5-11 (2-10 RMAC).
 
The ThunderWolves will wrap up their four-game road trip Saturday when they visit Black Hills State University. Tip off between the Pack and Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 5 p.m.
