NCAA RESULTS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 24, 2018) - Senior Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) gathered his third All-American honor in the 3000m Steeplechase and his 12th-career award for the Colorado State University-Pueblo track and field program, as the ThunderWolves competed on Day 2 of the 2018 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Williams ran a career best time of 8:52.61 to finish fourth in the 3000m Steeplechase and claim his third straight All-American honor in the event. He has five career All-American honors at the outdoor nationals. He sat third for most of the race, but with 800m to go fell to fourth and that is where he would finish.

He scored five points to move the Pack's total to seven headed to the final day tomorrow.

In the women's steeplechase, senior Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) ran to a time of 10:36.27 to finish 10th. Her finish is good enough for Second Team All-American honors, to close her career with two All-American honors (cross country in 2016). She was eighth through 1400m, but slipped two spots to finish 10th.

Roberts wraps the championships for the women, which will place for the first time since 2011, as senior Angelique Urenda (Pueblo, Colo.) tied for eighth in the pole vault yesterday to score half a point.

In the men's 800m prelims, both Thomas Staines (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Devundrick Walker (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) advanced to the finals thanks to the automatic qualification of finishing top two in their heat. Staines won heat one and had the top time in the prelims at 1:48.04. Walker ran to a time of 1:50.11 to finish second in heat two and advance to Saturday's final, which is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. MT.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Dueth Vassell (Sr., Denver, Colo.), Tevin Donnell (Jr., Fountain, Colo.), Shawn Horne (Jr., Camp Casey, South Korea) and Staines finished second in heat one, which would have been an automatic qualifying spot to the finals, but were disqualified.

Saturday will feature Staines and Walker in the 800m final at 3:05 p.m. MT with Williams running in the 5000m final at 4:10 p.m. MT for his final collegiate track and field race.
