ThunderWolves Shine at Chuck Haering Invitational with Dominant Wins, Records, and Distance Sweep

PUEBLO, Colo. - Colorado State University Pueblo Track and Field turned in another impressive weekend on their home surface, as the ThunderWolves hosted the Chuck Haering Invitational at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl to conclude their second outdoor meet of the 2026 season. Competing against a strong Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference field, the Pack delivered a blend of dominant field performances, record-setting efforts, and distance depth that continues to define their early-season success.

The weekend began with a statement performance from sophomore standout Keturah Templeman, who continued her torrid start to the outdoor campaign. The All-American captured the women's javelin title with a throw of 45.20 meters. While just shy of her NCAA provisional mark from the previous week, Templeman's winning toss once again proved she is among the RMAC's elite, handling a deep conference field with confidence.

Saturday's field events saw the ThunderWolves flex their strength across the board. Xavier Freeman delivered a dominant double, winning both the men's shot put and discus. Freeman posted a mark of 18.72 meters in the shot put before returning to take the discus with a throw of 50.09 meters, showcasing his versatility and continued rise among the conference's top throwers. On the women's side, reigning indoor national champion Febe Wessels added another victory to her résumé, winning the shot put with a throw of 14.88 meters in a performance that came as little surprise given her national pedigree.

On the track, the ThunderWolves' distance group put together one of the most impressive performances of the meet, sweeping the podium in the men's 5,000-meter run. Jon Sweepe led the charge with a winning time of 14:23.90, continuing to build his case as one of the top distance runners in program history. He was followed by Kameron Eustace, who clocked a personal-best 14:49.55 for second place, and Caden Schweer who also notched a personal best at 14:54.39 to secure third.

In the middle-distance events, the Pack continued to shine. Caleb McLeod raced to a personal-best victory in the men's 800 meters, crossing the line in 1:47.76. On the women's side, three-time national champion Helen Braybrook added another win to her decorated career, taking the 800-meter title in 2:06.74. Braybrook later helped guide the 4x400-meter relay team—alongside Gabrielle Dunich, Leyah Martinez, and Charlotte Young—to a season-best time of 3:47.67 and a third-place finish.

Elsewhere on the track, Jadyn Herron delivered a strong performance in the women's 1,500 meters, claiming the event title with a season-best time of 4:30.02. In the hurdles, Leyah Martinez etched her name into the program record book, running a school-record and personal-best 14.18 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish third overall.

With another successful home meet in the books, the ThunderWolves continue to build momentum heading deeper into the outdoor season. CSU Pueblo will return to action next weekend, April 3–4, as they travel across the Continental Divide to Grand Junction for the Maverick Invitational, hosted by Colorado Mesa University.
