SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (December 14, 2018) - For over three years, Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball had been unbeaten in December. However, that streak ended Friday night when the ThunderWolves lost to Westminster College 65-58 at Behnken Field House.
The Pack had won 21 consecutive games in December. CSU-Pueblo was outscored 42-20 in the paint and outrebounded 46-33.
Jennah Knafelc (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the Pack with 16 points. Knafelc made 4-of-9 from downtown. She had two assists, one block, and one steal.
JaNaiya Davis (Fr., Hewitt, Texas) netted 10 points. Davis dished out three assists and came away with two steals. She did not commit a turnover.
Khiya Adams (Jr., Falcon, Colo.) also scored 10 points in just 15 minutes. Adams went 4-of-5 from the field.
Freshman
Kansas Watts (Houston, Texas) topped the Pack 10 rebounds. Watts rejected two shots. She scored seven points.
The Pack scored the game's first five points, but the Griffins bounced with a 7-0 run. A Davis bucket, and a Watts free throw gave the Pack an 8-7 lead with three minutes. Westminster wound up scoring six straight points to lead 13-8 after one.
Midway through the second quarter, the Pack tied the game at 22. Westminster took a four-point lead, but the Pack tied the game 30-30 at the half.
The Pack took a four-point lead with 2:30 left in the third quarter. They held a 49-47 edge after three.
Westminster took over in the fourth quarter, scoring the first six points of the second quarter. Down seven with 2:48 left in the fourth, the Pack got buckets from Adams and Davis to make it a one possession game at 61-58. They would not score again as the Griffins fended them off to complete the 65-58 victory.
The Pack now stands 5-5 with a 3-1 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. Westminster leads the RMAC with a 4-0 mark in conference play. The Griffins are 6-2 overall.
CSU-Pueblo will play Dixie State University Saturday. The first RMAC meeting between the Pack and Trailblazers starts at 5:30 p.m.
