LAS VEGAS, N.M. (December 1, 2018) –In their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener, Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball defeated New Mexico Highlands University 76-48 Saturday at John A. Wilson Complex.
The Pack now own a 3-4 record overall and are 1-0 in RMAC play. The Cowgirls fell to 2-6 (0-1 RMAC).
JaNaiya Davis (Fr., Hewitt, Texas) delivered a team-high 14 points. Davis also added five assists and five steals. She made 7-of-13 from the field.
Fellow freshman,
Kansas Watts (Houston, Texas) came off the bench with 13 points. Watts sank 5-of-8 from range and pulled down seven boards.
Naomi Torgerson (Jr., Anoka, Minn.) scored 13 points and hauled in seven rebounds. Torgerson rejected two Cowgirl shots. She finished 5-of-11 from the field.
Jennah Kanfelc (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) filled the stats sheet with 11 points and eight rebounds. Knafelc also dished out six assists. She added three steals.
Aubrey Robinson (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored a career-best nine points. She made 3-of-6 from the field, including a 3-pointer and 2-of-2 at the line.
The ThunderWolves buried the Cowgirls from the opening quarter, CSU-Pueblo scored the game's first seven points. They would dominate defensively in the first quarter, holding the Cowgirls to just five points. The Pack led 16-5 after one.
After a Cowgirls bucket started the quarter, the Pack went on an 8-0 run to make it 24-7. Their dominance continued as they led 40-20 at halftime.
The Pack led by as many as 30 in the third quarter. They ran out to a 32-point lead in the third quarter as they cruised to a 76-48 victory.
CSU-Pueblo made 45.7 percent from the field. They held the Cowgirls to just 29.1 percent from the field. The ThunderWolves held a 48-32 advantage on the glass.
The ThunderWolves will return home Friday when they host Adams State University at 5:30 p.m. The Pack's homestand will wrap up when Fort Lewis College comes to Pueblo Saturday.
Friday's game will feature a Toy Drive to benefit Cooperative Care. Saturday's game will be YMCA Night. Kids in YMCA Youth Jerseys will receive free admission and YMCA members will receive a discount.
