Box Score ST. GEORGE, UT (October 19, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team dropped a tough one on the road Friday, falling 3-2 in double-overtime at Dixie State.
The Pack received scores from Archie Jones (Fr., London, England) and Tanner Pile (So., Tempe, Ariz.) in the effort.
Starting the match, the ThunderWolves recorded the first shot in the game by Michael Chism (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) in the 6'.
Moments later another shot attempt by the Pack went wide of the net.
In the 18', Dixie State scored on a pass from the left wing and a one touch inside the box by the Trailblazers accounted for the early 1-0 lead.
The Pack posted two shots over the next fifteen minutes before DSU tallied another goal in the 36' from another pass from the left wing inside the box.
At halftime, both teams had recorded five shots each and DSU earned one corner against zero for the Pack.
In the second period, the ThunderWolves came alive and was quick to the ball and applied pressure against the Trailblazer defense.
At the 68' mark, swift passing by Chism and Lewis Chambers (So., Bournemouth, UK) was finished on a header shot by Jones who hit inside the right post to put the Pack on the board, 2-1.
After the goal, CSU-Pueblo kept the pressure on Dixie's defense and fired multiple shots at the net.
Late in the second half and less than two minutes to play, the ThunderWolves controlled the ball and drove down field. Following a deflected shot, Pile settled the ball and fired from inside four-yards and scored his first goal of the year and took the game into overtime tied 2-2. Brayden Ballman (So., Seattle, Wash.) earned an assist on the play.
In the first overtime, CSU-Pueblo took one shot that went high of the crossbar.
The final overtime was ultimately controlled by the home team as they earned a shot and corner kick with five minutes left in the period.
DSU scored the game winner in the 107th minute on a short pass inside the box that was finished from 15 yards out past a diving Pack defense.
Pack goalkeeper Tyler Harvey (Jr., Henderson, Nev.) made six saves and faced 18 shots by the Trailblazers.
CSU-Pueblo (5-8-2, 2-7-2 RMAC) stays on the road to finish the away schedule. Sunday the Pack will battle Westminster College at 1 p.m. in Salt Lake City, Utah.
