PUEBLO, Colo. – A late goal from Jamal Bynum proved to be the difference Saturday night as the CSU Pueblo men's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over Hawai'i Hilo under the lights at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Bynum broke a scoreless deadlock in the 85th minute, finding the back of the net off a corner kick delivered by Nick Cenek. The goal was Bynum's third of the season and lifted the ThunderWolves to a 4-0 start to the 2026 campaign.
CSU Pueblo controlled much of the match offensively, outshooting Hawai'i Hilo 17-5 while putting seven attempts on frame. The Pack limited the Vulcans to just one shot on goal over the full 90 minutes.
The ThunderWolves created several opportunities during the opening 45 minutes, firing eight shots while holding Hawai'i Hilo to just two. CSU Pueblo put three of those attempts on goal, but Vulcans goalkeeper Tim Teicher kept the match scoreless with three first-half saves.
CSU Pueblo continued to apply pressure after halftime, adding nine more shots. The Pack's persistence finally paid off late in the contest.
After earning a corner in the closing minutes, Cenek stepped up to deliver the ball into the box and Bynum finished the opportunity at the 84:34 mark to give CSU Pueblo the 1-0 advantage. It was Bynum's lone shot of the match and went down as the game-winner, while Cenek collected the assist.
The Pack defense took care of the rest, keeping Hawai'i Hilo off the scoreboard to secure its third clean sheet through the first four matches of the season.
Goalkeeper Esteban Gonzalez played all 90 minutes in net and made one save to record the shutout. Hawai'i Hilo's Teicher finished with six saves as the Pack kept him busy throughout the night.
Individually, Cenek and Joao Lutz led CSU Pueblo with three shots apiece, while Logan Cozier, Jose Peris Gimeno, Leonardo Vilchis and Matty Parkes each recorded two attempts. Cozier put both of his shots on goal.
The ThunderWolves finished with a 17-5 advantage in shots, a 7-1 edge in shots on goal and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
