COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a strong opening weekend on both ends of the pitch, Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer's Jamal Bynum has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league office.

The honor is the first RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award of Bynum's career after he helped lead the ThunderWolves to a 2-0 start with victories over St. Mary's and Sul Ross State in San Antonio, Texas.

Bynum made an immediate impact in the Pack's season-opening 1-0 victory over St. Mary's on Thursday. In addition to helping anchor a CSU Pueblo defense that recorded a clean sheet, Bynum provided the game-winning goal in the 75th minute to break the scoreless tie and lift the ThunderWolves to their first victory under head coach Thomás Pazo.

Two days later, Bynum continued his strong start in a 2-0 neutral-site victory over Sul Ross State at the Texas A&M-San Antonio Multisport Facility.

The ThunderWolf struck just 2:01 into the match, giving CSU Pueblo an early 1-0 advantage with his second goal in as many games. Bynum and the Pack defense did the rest, limiting the Lobos to just one shot for the entire match as CSU Pueblo secured its second consecutive shutout.

For the weekend, Bynum scored two goals, including one game-winner, while helping CSU Pueblo post back-to-back clean sheets. The ThunderWolves allowed just one goal attempt in Saturday's victory and left San Antonio with a perfect 2-0 record.

Bynum's performances also helped CSU Pueblo score twice from set pieces during the weekend as the Pack opened the Pazo era with consecutive victories and clean sheets.

CSU Pueblo returns to Colorado for its next match as the ThunderWolves prepare for their home opener Saturday, Sept. 5 against Newman starting at 2 p.m. at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
