Slow start hurts Pack Men's Lacrosse in loss to Westminster

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (April 23, 2017) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Lacrosse fell behind Westminster College early and never caught up as the Griffins ran away with a 24-13 win in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game Sunday.

Westminster came out on fire and quickly put the Pack in a 9-1 hole. CSU-Pueblo would get within six, but never made up the first quarter deficit.

The Pack dropped below .500 for the second time this season, going to 5-6. They now have a 3-6 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. The Griffins improved to 7-5 (6-3 RMAC).

Blake Foerster (Jr., Centennial, Colo.) added six more points to his school record. Foerster fired in three goals on his only three shots of the game. He also handed out three assists. With a program-record 32 goals and 17 assists, Foerster hopes to become the first 50 point scorer in school history with one game remaining.

Fellow Attackman Nick Matzek (Jr., Tustin, Calif.) collected his second hat trick of the season with three goals. Matzek now has 17 goals and 10 assists on the season.

Weston Bartgis (So., El Cajon, Calif.), Cody Bolen (Jr., Castle Rock, Colo.), and Taylor Davis (So., Littleton, Colo.) each netted two goals and handed out an assist. Freshman Parker Loyd (Centennial, Colo.) scored a goal for the Pack. Hunter Thompson (Jr., Greenwood Village, Colo.) dished out two helpers.

Defensively, Tavian Watson (So., Aurora, Colo.) caused a team-high two turnovers. Cole Pauley (So., Omaha, Neb.) led the Pack with four ground balls. Preston DeHerrera (Jr., Northglenn, Colo.) and Anthony Ferrie (So., Littleton, Colo.) each snagged three ground balls and caused a turnover.

The Griffins outshot the Pack 65-32 and put 42 shots on goals. Westminster won 25 of the game's 39 faceoffs to maintain possession.

CSU-Pueblo will face Adams State University Saturday April 29 in their regular season finale. This must-win road game for the Pack starts at 3 p.m.
